The idea behind Bar Messenger’s name comes from the historical art deco building it’s housed in: Transport House, in Sydney’s Circular Quay. The entrance is marked by a sculpture of Mercury, the Roman god of messages.
The sculpture became the inspiration for the name – which I worked with the team to develop – but also the bar’s brand identity. Mercury appears on the logo, and the wine bar’s entire branding reflects the building’s art deco origins.
I oversaw the bar’s design, including menus, coasters, signage, artwork within the bar, website, social media campaigns and label design for the bar’s in-house wine. I also designed the bar’s hidden door – featuring an art deco-style woman drinking wine – which made it popular with TikTok creators. Check out one of them here.
